History
Black Park Colliery was one of the oldest coal mines in North Wales, with documented operations beginning in 1653. This remarkable 315-year history makes it one of the longest-operating collieries in the region.
The mine operated through centuries of technological change, from early hand-worked operations through to mechanized extraction in the 20th century.
Like many collieries in the region, Black Park closed during the period of widespread pit closures in the late 1960s. The site has since been demolished and few physical traces remain.
Legacy
While the physical remains of Black Park Colliery are gone, the mine's long history is an important part of North Wales' industrial heritage. The Trust works to preserve the memory and stories of mines like Black Park for future generations.
